As the San Francisco 49ers returned to Levi's® Stadium on player report day, the buzz of a new season filled the air. Players returned to 49ers headquarters on Tuesday morning ready and rejuvenated for the season ahead.
With the start of training camp less than 24 hours away, president of football operations and general manager John Lynch, head coach Kyle Shanahan, tight end George Kittle and defensive lineman Nick Bosa shared their thoughts on the team entering a new year, moves the team has made over the offseason and how they've prepared for the 2024 NFL season.
Take a look at quotes from player report day below:
Lynch on his outlook for the 2024 season:
"We have a chance. This team has a chance. It's an awesome opportunity that we have going into camp. I'm really excited. I'm fired up."
Shanahan on running back Christian McCaffrey's contract extension:
"To be able to get Christian here, with what he's done the last couple years and what we plan on him doing for the next few years, we were really excited to get that done and felt great about it."
Shanahan on his 2024 offseason activities:
"I went on morning walks with my family, which made me feel very old, but after doing it for about four days, it made me feel a lot healthier. I enjoyed that stuff. I got into a lot more routines. It's really about – I think as you go, this is my 20th season, and so you know what it's about. You know what you're doing every single day. You know about the seven-month grind. It's not at all coming back to the hours, it's coming back to (the fact that) you're not going to have a day off, minus that Bye week, until hopefully February. You know what that takes, you know what you're going to go through. So, you kind of know how to handle yourself in the 40 days away. Spiritually, mentally, physically, all the stuff."
Kittle on his 2024 offseason:
"It's been wonderful. I was able to go home, rest, recover, train, do some fun stuff with my family and my wife, and now we're back in football. It was a great time."
Kittle on Netflix's series "Recievers" that he stars in alongside wide receivers Deebo Samuel Sr., Davante Adams, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Justin Jefferson:
"I'm a big fan of it. I think they did a really good job of portraying all five of us. It was a very intriguing story of mine and Deebo's seasons and how you weave them together. And I thought it was kind of funny, you got a lot of 49ers content. I really enjoyed the whole process."
Kittle on what he thinks of San Francisco's team heading into the 2024 season:
"The fun thing too is we still have a really good team. We were able to keep our entire offense together for the most part, our defense still looks pretty good with Nick Bosa and Fred Warner over there, and Mitch Wishnowsky is still an amazing punter. And so, we have a really solid team with solid coaches. What's not to be excited about, we're given another opportunity to go play football."
Bosa on the team's revamped D-line:
"I like how it's going. I like how the edge guys are starting to develop and get used to this team. Leonard Floyd looks great, which is expected. But yeah, I like all the additions, they're really good dudes. We had a nice D-line dinner before we left to get to know each other a little bit and I'm excited."
Bosa on his offseason training:
"It was a good offseason. I took it slow after a really long year, I think I kind of built it up better than I have in the past, but Joey (Bosa) and I did a really good job. I think I'm in as good shape as I'll be in, and we've made some tweaks here and there. Nothing too crazy, but think it's going to be good results... By the end of the offseason, I'm always ready to get back to work. That's kind of the nice thing about having two halves of your year. I spend half my year in Florida and half my year out here (California). So, by the end of the season I'm ready to get home, and by the end of my time at home I'm ready to get to work. It's a good split."
