Wednesday marked a special day for the San Francisco 49ers organization that is fondly referred to as 87 Day. The day is dedicated to celebrating the life and legacy of two-time Super Bowl champion Dwight Clark. Football staff, alumni, players and coaches wore commemorative shirts with an image of Clark's iconic "The Catch," and members of the ALS community and their families were the special guests of the team in their final opening training camp practice.
Training Camp Notebook
- The day began with some roster moves that brought WR Jontre Kirklin and RB Ke'Shawn Vaughn. To make room on the roster, the team released S Erik Harris and waived/injured WR Terique Owens.
- CB Darrell Luter Jr. returned to practice but only participated in position drills.
- WR Danny Gray was in a blue non-contact jersey for the second day in a row.
- P Mitch Wishnowsky participated in some special teams activity, holding for K Jake Moody in his field goal attempts.
- DL Nick Bosa, DL Javon Hargrave, DL Leonard Floyd and FB Kyle Juszczyk returned from their veteran rest day on Tuesday.
- The 49ers had their longest practice of the fourth block thus far, incorporating one-on-ones in this final practice with the fans in the stands.
- Bosa continues to be dominant, employing a spin move to get past OL Jaylon Moore in the final seconds of the rep.
- Floyd was able to cut and change directions during late in his rep to get to the would-be QB. He was the larger force in his final two turns of this drill.
- OL Dominick Puni is holding up well in his opportunities but did get his challenge of the day with DL Maliek Collins who used a spin move of his own to power past him.
- The 49ers continue to build on their deep ball connection. QB Brock Purdy linked up with FB Kyle Juszczyk near the left sideline for a large gain and later threw a pass to WR Jauan Jennings on the right side for a chunk play.
- QB Brandon Allen dropped a dime to WR Chris Conley with S Jaylen Mahoney and S Malik Mustapha in sticky coverage.
- Mustapha broke up a run and had a would-be scoop and score during 11-on-11 drills.
- S George Odum came away with two interceptions on the day.
- CB Ambry Thomas had a nice breakup of a long pass intended for Gray during team drills.
- The 49ers will have one more practice on Thursday before departing to Nashville for the preseason opener versus the Tennessee Titans.
