Christian McCaffrey Questionable for Season Opener; Injury Report #NYJvsSF

The San Francisco 49ers have a few question marks heading into their Week 1 "Monday Night Football" matchup versus the New York Jets. Following the team's final practice of the week, head coach Kyle Shanahan listed running back Christian McCaffrey (calf/Achilles) and guard Aaron Banks (finger) as questionable heading into the season opener. While both have not been fully cleared for game action as of now, Banks and McCaffrey were limited participants in all three of the team's workouts this week.

Additionally, the head coach ruled out defensive lineman Yetur Gross-Matos (knee) and linebacker Dee Winters (ankle), who both suffered injuries in the preseason finale. The move should not come as a surprise with both players sitting out of all practices this week. He also tabbed safety Talanoa Hufanga (knee) as doubtful. The fourth-year safety is in the process of getting back up to full speed since being medically cleared from an ACL tear.

Saturday marked the completion of left tackle Trent Williams and wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk's first week back with the team following their preseason contract negotiations. It's possible both players will have adjustments in their normal gameday workloads against the Jets.

"I thought (Williams) did good. It was nice to get that extra practice on Tuesday," Shanahan responded when asked about Williams' progress. "Then, he's had these three days. Each day he's gotten more comfortable. He's obviously in shape, but it's good to just get back into hearing the cadence off the ball and moving with other guys. It got better for him each day."
