The San Francisco 49ers will be missing some key playmakers on both sides of the ball in their 2024 season finale. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. (ribs, wrist), quarterback Brock Purdy (elbow), cornerback Deommodore Lenoir (shoulder), offensive lineman Spencer Burford (calf) and defensive lineman Robert Beal Jr. (ankle) were all ruled out of the team's Week 18 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. With the 49ers eliminated from playoff contention and injuries plaguing them late in the year, head coach Kyle Shanahan opted to shut down this group ahead of Sunday.
"Guys would be pushing really hard to play (under different circumstances), and we'd probably let them," Shanahan said. "In this case, they're pushing hard to play and we are not going to let them."
On the flipside, a number of players that had not practiced earlier in the week returned as full participants to San Francisco's final workout of the week. By doing so, defensive lineman Nick Bosa (knee), wide receiver Ricky Pearsall (illness, chest) and defensive lineman Leonard Floyd (shoulder) completely avoided injury designation headed into the weekend.
Bosa and Floyd are both within striking distance of reaching double-digit sacks on the year. Bosa has racked up 9.0 sacks while Floyd trails him with 8.5. For Bosa, one more sack would mean he's hit the 10.0-sack mark in four straight seasons.
