What the 49ers and Rams Had to Say Following Week 3

The San Francisco 49ers fell to the Los Angeles Rams 27-24 at SoFi Stadium in Week 3. Here's what both teams had to say following the contest:

Niners Liners

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan on the final minutes of the game:

"I think it was a frustrating game throughout it. I thought we had every chance to win that game. I thought also we had a number of times in the game, we had opportunities to run away with it especially early in the game, that 14-point lead. We hadn't really moved the ball on our 'D' and it started with that fake punt... I thought we had a chance to make it a two-score game with a field goal and I think they got a bomb, went down there right away. They didn't really work for it. They got a big chunk, got behind their defenses too much today. (We) gave them some easy ones that way."

Shanahan on QB Brock Purdy's performance:

"He made a bunch of big plays. He took some good shots down the field and it was tough to not come up with that one on that last drive and especially after missing that field goal. When stuff wasn't there, he did a hell of a job scrambling, making some off-schedule plays."

Shanahan on WR Jauan Jennings' performance:

"Jauan was unbelievable. I think the numbers show it, but more than the numbers, he was a warrior the whole game. He's always like that and got a lot more opportunities today and he's automatic on every single one and even some bad looks when we don't know if the ball should go there. We quickly saw after it that they weren't going to take that away from Jauan and it was very inspiring today how he played."

Quarterback Brock Purdy on his frustration following the loss:

"I mean, it's pretty high with all of us and the standard that we have of obviously winning and closing out games. We got a 14-point lead. Obviously anything can happen, but for us it's like, alright, we have the momentum, let's run with it. We have a good enough team to finish out a game pretty early and put up points every drive offensively. So we're all pretty frustrated. So we just got to watch the film, get better from it, and we win and lose as a team. Everyone has their moments, but man, more than anything, I just feel like it comes down to complimentary football man. You know, once the defense gets a stop, we have to score and we have to reward ourselves with that. Just everything all together tied in. So it's four quarters of that. You miss out on opportunity and give the other team life, it's the NFL man, the other guys on the other side are really good and they'll make you pay for it so we kind of learned the hard way today."

Purdy on feeling the Week 2 loss:

"Obviously it's a league where you have to turn the page and get ready for the next opponent. But for us it's like, yeah, you really have to look at the film and understand alright, what did I not do well and what did I do well and what can I continue to get better at? Because it's going to show up again. In the NFL, stuff happens time and time again, situational football. And so we have to watch this kind of stuff and really get better from it and it's as simple as that. So, Patriots next week. They're going be a great team coming in and you know we just got to perform better and execute better and watch this film and be hard on ourselves."

Rams Quotes

Rams head coach Sean McVay on his opinion of what he saw from the Rams young defense:

"Yeah, I thought they're just taking steps. [Brock] Purdy, oh my gosh. He's running around forever on a couple of those plays. He's a competitor. I got a ton of respect for him and what they've done since he stepped in there, but our guys just kept competing. They kept fighting."

McVay on the Week 3 team making the Rams "hopeful":

"I think it shows that there's a grit and there's a mental toughness. You look at the week two loss that we sustain, and you give the Cardinals a ton of credit. They forced a lot of the things that didn't go for us. But even in week one there was examples of us continuing to fight and we just came up short, but there was still a lot of those things that you could witness from this group. There's going to be other adversity that we hit as we continue to move forward. How we handle it, how we act, interact, and respond to all that is going to be key and critical. I think today was a step in the right direction of what these guys are made of."

Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford on overcoming tough circumstances to earn the win:

"We went up there and played as best we could. We got the win. I'm not into improbable (or) probable. The NFL is an improbable business, I'll tell you that much. You never know what's going to happen week in and week out. You have to go out there and earn it and prove it and we did that today."
