The San Francisco 49ers fell to the Arizona Cardinals 47-24 at State Farm Stadium in Week 18. Here's what both teams had to say following the contest:
Niners Liners
San Francisco 49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan on falling short from expectations:
"We've been processing it all year. We've been trying to get there. You don't really accept that you're not going to get there until you get eliminated from the playoffs. So we've had to deal with this for the last three weeks. We've been processing it, we're ready to finish this up, we tried to finish with a win. Didn't get that done today, but I'm excited to get to this offseason and figure out how to not be in this situation again."
Shanahan on quarterback Joshua Dobbs' starting performance vs. Arizona:
"I thought Dobbs did a really good job. You know, minus the turnovers. You take out those turnovers and I think he had a hell of a game."
Quarterback Joshua Dobbs on his mindset going into the Week 18 contest:
"Just to go out and play. Enjoy my time out there, compete, obviously get a win, but just play. Go out there and execute the offense, play at a high level, lead the guys around me, enjoy the opportunity to start a game in the NFL, which is always rare and hard to come by. Those were my goals going into the game and obviously, looking back on the game, it was great to be out there. We played well at times, I thought for three quarters we battled. Obviously, turnovers kind of killed us, those were the differences in the game, and third down could have been better in those situations and being able to stay on the field, sustain a couple more drives to get into the end zone. But it was good to be out there, good to compete, proud of the guys and how they fought. Guys stepping up as different guys went down throughout the game and making plays, that was great to see. RB Patrick Taylor Jr. got 100 yards as well and WRs Jacob Cowing and Ricky Pearsall and the young guys come in, step in, make plays throughout the day. I definitely wish we could have finished on a better note, without a doubt."
Linebacker Fred Warner on his review of the 49ers 2024 defensive performance:
"For as long as I've been here, I've always known playing dominant defense and I can't speak to everything else that's gone on with the team this year, but it just hasn't been good enough, not even close. And to be a part of that, knowing that I'm out there every game and it still isn't good enough, obviously it is a gut punch to my own pride and obviously I'm going to do everything to make it right."
Cardinals Quotes
Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon on the 2024 regular season finale:
"We didn't accomplish what we wanted to accomplish this year, and that stings. But I'm proud of them, I really am. They fought, they battled, we had a lot of guys in the lineup, roles were changing and to put that kind of effort against the San Francisco 49ers, a well-coached, tough, physical team, I thought that was pretty cool to see. So, I'm proud of them and I thanked them for that. It's good to see us close out this year at home with a win.
Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray on his thoughts following the contest:
"I thought we were crisper. I thought we executed well, still could have been better. I think everybody did their job. Obviously, you're not going to be perfect, you try to be perfect, but our guys were where they're supposed to be, on time, caught the ball in contested catches. There's a couple that we left out there, but for the most part, I thought everybody did their job."
