The San Francisco 49ers continue to be hit by the injury bug early in the 2024 season. Coming off their 27-24 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 3, head coach Kyle Shanahan delivered some more tough news regarding a big-time playmaker on the defensive line. The team initially thought Javon Hargrave exited Sunday's NFC West opener with a triceps contusion, however, further examination revealed the ninth-year pro actually partially tore his triceps and will "likely" be out for the remainder of the 2024 season.
"It's a big one (loss)," Shanahan said. "I thought he had his best game yesterday. I thought he was a huge factor. He really affected the quarterback in that game, and it's a big loss. He's one of our better players, and he was definitely going in the right direction. He was going to have a big year."
Through three games in 2024, Hargrave amassed seven tackles (one for loss), 1.0 sack and a quarterback hit. Hargrave was a free agent addition prior to the start of last season and signed a four-year deal with the team that will keep him in The Bay through 2026.
Another notable injury surfacing on Monday is the back soreness quarterback Brock Purdy is experiencing. He was labeled as day-to-day headed into Week 4 after getting an MRI that Shanahan said was "good."
"We feel good about that, and hopefully he'll feel better by Wednesday," Shanahan said.
Tight end George Kittle, who was sidelined in Week 3 due to a hamstring injury, may also be good to go in time for Wednesday's practice.
