San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman Trent Williams is back in the Madden 99 Club, earning a 99 overall rating in Electronic Arts' Madden NFL 2025. The veteran left tackle has now earned the distinction twice over the last three seasons. Williams joins teammate, reigning AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year and Madden NFL 2025 cover athlete Christian McCaffrey as the the two representatives for the 49ers in the exclusive club for the upcoming iteration of the popular video game.
Williams made his 99 Club debut in Madden NFL 2023 which was released ahead of the 2022 season. By doing so, he became the first offensive lineman to earn a 99-overall rating since Pro Football Hall of Fame tackle Walter Jones in Madden NFL 07. Williams' is now one of just five 49ers players to belong to the 99 club and is in the company of Hall of Famers Terrell Owens (Madden NFL 2004) and Patrick Willis (Madden NFL 11) as well as Ken Norton Jr. (Madden NFL 99) and Christian McCaffrey (Madden NFL 2025). He is also the only player in San Francisco history to garner a 99 Club invitation twice in their career.
By current standards, a 99 overall rating is the highest possible grade a player can receive in Madden. In the 1999 and 2000 versions of the video game, 100 overall ratings were given to elite players but were never awarded again after the turn of the century. Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice is the lone 49ers player to ever receive the now defunct 100 overall rating.
Williams' off-the-field accolade follows a productive 2023 season with the 49ers. The veteran tackle did not give up a single sack in his 15 regular season starts and allowed just 18 total pressures in those contests. He kept the sackless streak going through San Francisco's Super Bowl LVIII run. As a result, the veteran tackle earned First-Team All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors and closed out the year with an 89.9 overall offensive grade from Pro Football Focus (second amongst all tackles in the NFL).
Madden NFL 2025 which features Williams with his 99 overall rating is set to be released on August 16.
