Puni comes from an extremely close and athletic family. Both of his parents played sports in college at Truman State, with his father playing football and his mother playing volleyball. In addition to his parents, he has two brothers, Devin and Derrick, both of which he had the opportunity to play with during his time at Central Missouri. He also has a sister, Brianna, who played basketball at Illinois State (2011-13) and Eastern Michigan (2013-15).

Appeared in 42 games (38 starts) over six seasons at Central Missouri (2018-21) and Kansas (2022-23). As a redshirt senior in 2023, started in 12 games and earned AP First-Team All-Big 12 honors. As a redshirt junior in 2022, was named All-Big 12 Honorable Mention after starting in 12 games. In 2019, started in 13 games for Central Missouri and earned All-MIAA Honorable Mention.
