San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy may have played his final game of the 2024 season. Head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed in a Monday press conference call that the 49ers starting QB suffered a right elbow contusion with nerve inflammation against the Detroit Lions on "Monday Night Football." While the injury will most likely cost Purdy the start in the team's regular season finale, there is no concern of long-term damage, and, per the head coach, his UCL "looks fine."
"I'm relieved, but I wasn't too concerned," Shanahan said. "I wasn't too worried about it just with the information we had last night, so it was good to just hear the same thing today."
The injury forced Purdy to exit late in the fourth quarter, and the team looked up to backup Joshua Dobbs to close out the Week 17 contest. Dobbs played a total of five snaps and connected on three-of-four pass attempts for 35 yards. He also added a seven-yard rushing touchdown.
As of now, no decisions have been made as to which of San Francisco's remaining quarterbacks will get the start against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
"We're just starting to put this game to bed right now and trying to catch up with Arizona, so I'll decide that later in the day," Shanahan said on Monday morning.
Monday marked Dobbs' first and only appearance for the 49ers this season while Brandon Allen has made two appearances (one start against the Green Bay Packers) in 2024.
