The San Francisco 49ers were hit hard by injuries in their Week 16 matchup versus the Miami Dolphins. The red and gold had in-game exits from tackle Jaylon Moore (quad strain), left guard Aaron Banks (MCL), linebacker Dre Greenlaw (calf soreness) while a number of other players were added to the injury list on Monday following the contest.
With the team being officially eliminated from playoff contention, head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed that several injured players will be shutdown for the remainder of the season.
- T Jaylon Moore (quad strain)
- LG Aaron Banks (MCL)
- LT Trent Williams (ankle)
Williams had been working to get back in 2024 but has not been able to make enough forward progress with his ankle injury since coming out hurt from the team's Week 11 matchup versus the Seattle Seahawks.
"He won't be playing in these next two games, so I guess that is an update," Shanahan said. "He hasn't been able to improve enough to get him out there, and we don't see that happening enough in these two weeks, especially with the situation we're in."
A final decision has not been made on Greenlaw, however, the head coach noted that his gut tells him Greenlaw will "most likely" not play the final two games of 2024.
"I have to wait to talk to Dre on that," Shanahan said. "We'll still make sure to see exactly how he is doing because right now we have it as just soreness. That will definitely be a decision that I'll leave up to Dre depending on what his health is."
Greenlaw has made two appearances in 2024 after rehabbing from an Achilles injury he suffered in Super Bowl LVIII in February.
Other injured players the 49ers will be monitoring heading into Week 17 include:
- OL Spencer Burford (calf) awaiting MRI results
- S Ji'Ayir Brown (ankle) day-to-day
- LB Dee Winters (chest) day-to-day
- RB Isaac Guerendo (foot, hamstring) expected to be back at practice on Thursday. He is considered day-to-day with his hamstring but is "trending in the right direction."
