Five Players Out vs. Vikings; Inactives for #SFvsMIN

The San Francisco 49ers are headed into their Week 2 contest without their All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey, who was placed on the Injured Reserve list on Saturday. McCaffrey continues to deal with a calf/Achilles injury that kept him out of the preseason and flared up in these two first weeks of the 2024 campaign. That roster move means McCaffrey will be out for a minimum of four weeks and the first game he could suit up for would be the team's October 10th matchup versus the Seattle Seahawks. With McCaffrey out, all eyes are once again on third-year running back Jordan Mason, who racked up 147 yards on the ground and touchdown in the season opener.

Safety Talanoa Hufanga (knee) is one of a couple players sidelined this week due to injury. He is being eased back into the season gradually as he works back from an ACL injury he suffered in Week 11 of 2023. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said he had a "chance" to play at the start of the week, but it appears his return to game action will be held off for at least another week. Linebacker Dee Winters returned to practice on Thursday but is still working through an ankle injury he suffered in the preseason.
