Christian McCaffrey OUT for Season Opener; Inactives for #NYJvsSF

Faithful, it's almost that time! In 90 minutes, the San Francisco 49ers will kickoff their 2024 campaign. The team will begin the season without reigning AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year Christian McCaffrey (calf/Achilles). McCaffrey, who was listed as questionable in the team's final injury report of the week, is inactive for the season opener. Meanwhile, starting left guard Aaron Banks (finger) was given the green light to play against the New York Jets on "Monday Night Football."

Meanwhile, safety Talanoa Hufanga, who is still in the process of working his way back from an ACL injury, will also sit out the season opener. Hufanga made his return to the practice field in late August, and it appears the team is taking a conservative approach to his return. In a corresponding lineup move, the team activated safety Tracy Walker III from the practice squad who will be active tonight. Additionally, T Trent Williams was officially added back to active roster just hours ahead of kickoff.
