Welcome to The Bay, Brant Boyer! Following a nine-season stretch as the New York Jets special teams coordinator, Boyer found a new opportunity on the West Coast, joining forces with head coach Kyle Shanahan on the San Francisco 49ers coaching staff. Boyer was hired as the team's special teams coordinator shortly after the conclusion of the 2024 NFL season. He is part of a completely revamped coordinator trio in San Francisco that includes returning defensive coordinator, Robert Saleh, and first-time offensive coordinator, Klay Kubiak.

Coaching Connection

Boyer has close ties to the 49ers newly hired defensive coordinator, Robert Saleh. Saleh kept Boyer on as a special teams coordinator when he took over as head coach of the Jets ahead of the 2021 season. The two coached together for three-plus seasons in New York.

Boyer was first hired as special teams coordinator of the Jets by former head coach Todd Bowles and remained on staff following various head coaching changes during his nine-year tenure with the organization.

Developing Talent

Brant played an integral role in developing standout special teams players during his time in New York. Under his guidance, wide receivers Braxton Berrios (2022) and Andre Roberts (2018) earned Associated Press First-Team All-Pro honors as returners, while cornerback Justin Hardee (2023), Roberts (2019), and kicker Jason Myers (2019) each earned Pro Bowl nods.

NFL Playing Days

Boyer was a sixth-round pick (177th-overall) of the 1994 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins and enjoyed an 11-season career in the league. He played linebacker and contributed to the special teams unit of the Dolphins (1994), Jacksonville Jaguars (1995-2000), and Cleveland Browns (2001-04).

Over the course of his career, Boyer appeared in 129 games and recorded 250 tackles, 13.0 sacks, 15 passes defensed, six interceptions, and one forced fumble. He also appeared in nine postseason contests (two starts) and added eight tackles.

Outdoor Adventures

For Boyer, the offseason involves being in the outdoors. The new special teams coordinator is from Utah and also owns land in Montana, two places he frequents for his outdoor excursions.

"I'm a huge fisherman. I fly-fish probably four to five times a week, if I can get a chance back home in Utah," Boyer said on the Official Jets Podcast. "(I'm) a big snowmobiler. I snowmobile all the time up in the mountains and get back, ride in the trees... I really enjoy doing that kind of stuff. (I'm) a big hunter, big outdoorsmen kind of guy."

College Career

Boyer attended Snow College (1990-91) and the University of Arizona (1992-93), where he earned Second-Team All-Pac-10 honors (1993).
