Tailgate Treats Recipe: 49 Layer Dip

Recipe of the Week: 49 Layer Dip

Ingredients:

  • Black olives (sliced)
  • Pico de gallo
  • Sharp cheddar cheese (shredded)
  • Black beans (canned or cooked)
  • Jalapeños (sliced)
  • Guacamole
  • Scallions (chopped)
  • Sour cream
  • Salsa roja
  • Tortilla chips

Instructions:

Step 1

Gather all the ingredients before starting. Slice the black olives, chop the scallions and slice the jalapeños. Make sure the black beans are cooked or ready to go (if using canned, drain and rinse them). Grate the sharp cheddar cheese and set aside the guacamole and salsa roja.

Step 2

In a serving dish (a large one is ideal), start by adding a layer of black olives. Place them on one side of the dish.

Step 3

Next, layer pico de gallo on the side of the black olives. You can make the pico de gallo as spicy as you want by adjusting the amount of jalapeños in it.

Step 4

Layer a generous amount of shredded sharp cheddar cheese on the side of the pico de gallo.

Step 5

Spread a layer of black beans on the side of the cheese.

Step 6

Place a layer of sliced jalapeños on the side of the black beans. Adjust the number of jalapeños depending on how spicy you want it to be.

Step 7

Layer a good amount of guacamole on the side of the jalapeños.

Step 8

Sprinkle chopped scallions on the side of the guacamole.

Step 9

Dollop sour cream on the side of the scallions.

Step 10

Top it off with a layer of salsa roja.

Step 11

Serve your 49-layer dip with a side of tortilla chips for dipping.

Expert tip:

To elevate the flavor and texture of your 49 layer dip, chill it for at least 30 minutes before serving.
