The San Francisco 49ers search for a defensive coordinator is officially underway.
The team announced on Thursday they have completed an interview with Detroit Lions passing game coordinator/defensive backs coach Deshea Townsend for the vacant defensive coordinator position.
He began his coaching career as an assistant defensive backs coach with the Arizona Cardinals and his stops include Mississippi State, the Tennessee Titans, New York Giants, Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars and Lions.
Townsend also enjoyed a 13-season playing career. He was a cornerback for both the Pittsburgh Steelers (1998-2009) and Indianapolis Colts (2010) and is a two-time Super Bowl Champion (XL and XLIIII).
