Pearsall Set to Practice, McCaffrey Continues Recovery as 49ers Look Ahead to Chiefs

The San Francisco 49ers earned their first divisional win of the 2024 season versus the Seattle Seahawks 36-24 on "Thursday Night Football." On Friday afternoon, head coach Kyle Shanahan provided updates on several players, detailing their statuses as the team rests for the weekend and prepares for Week 7.

Injuries following #SFvsSEA

Several players are currently day-to-day following the game:

"We're still waiting for his (Wright's) MRI to get back," Shanahan said. "He did dislocate it, or it came out for a little bit... and it went back in, but we've got to find out more on him when we get the MRI."

Shanahan confirmed that McCaffrey is making progress from the Achilles tendonitis that landed him on the Injured Reserve list. The All-Pro running back is dealing with "bilateral Achilles tendonitis," which means it is affecting both his legs. However, the team does not plan to open his practice window in Week 7.

"He is continuing to improve," Shanahan said. "But, we're not opening it up this week."

WR Ricky Pearsall Set to Practice

Pearsall is set to have his practice window opened this week, which may allow for a possible return to action in the near future. Shanahan indicated that Pearsall would likely begin practicing as early as Monday.

When asked if he'd be available to play vs. the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7, Shanahan stated: "I would think it'd be a longer ramp-up period, but health-wise and everything, he is totally good to go. I really won't decide that stuff until we start watching him practice. We're not going to rush it or anything. If he's ready, he's ready. And if he's not, we've got a few weeks."

Rehabbing Injuries

Shanahan also provided updates on other players rehabbing injuries:

Standout Performances from "Thursday Night Football"

When asked about the performance of backup running backs Isaac Guerendo and Patrick Taylor Jr., Shanahan praised their contributions.

"I thought they both did a really good job," Shanahan said. "They both came in, we didn't really miss a beat with it. They kept the whole rhythm of the offense going. They hit the right holes, they ran hard and made some plays for us. They were prepared and didn't hesitate when they got their opportunities."

On the defensive side, Shanahan highlighted DL Nick Bosa's impact despite the stat sheet showing only four tackles.

"Stats sometimes can say a lot and sometimes they can totally not say anything at all," Shanahan said. "I think that's one of these cases because when I got on the plane and started watching the tape, he was all over, just affecting the quarterback, setting the edge, getting in on tackles. I thought he had hell of a game and I thought the whole D-Line played really well as a group, also."

Looking Ahead

With a brief three-day break for the team following the Thursday night game, the 49ers head coach is optimistic about the team's recovery process.

"The payoff is you get three days off and your goal hopefully is to always have three happy days off," Shanahan said. "So, real excited to get a win, have everyone rest up a little bit, see the family some, catch up on some of your own studies that we do and come back Monday ready to go."

Starting Monday, the 49ers will prepare for their next matchup versus Kansas City Chiefs on October 20 at Levi's® Stadium.
