The Collection
The 49ers Pride Capsule Collection represents the LGBTQ+ community that is woven through the fabric of the 49ers Faithful. An ideation and creation of queer and ally 49ers employees, the collection demonstrates how the 49ers organization is not only Faithful to The Bay, but also Faithful to all members of the community.
The Pride Capsule Collection, made up of three retail pieces, is one-of-one. It is the first internally designed and released LGBTQ+ collection of any organization in the National Football League. The design couples the 49ers oval trademark logo with the colors of the progress rainbow flag, a symbol of unity, belonging and representation.
The collection is available now online and inside the 49ers Team Store presented by Visa.
The Inspiration
The 49ers P.L.U.S. (Pride, Leadership & Unity in Sports) employee resource group created the 49ers Pride Capsule Collection with the inclusive intention that football is for all.
P.L.U.S. is the first of just two LGBTQ+ employee resource groups in the NFL - feeling a distinct responsibility to create visibility and representation, while also paying homage to the rich history of queer activism in the Bay Area.
In 1978, the original rainbow pride flag was created by San Franciscan Gilbert Baker. Baker, an activist that worked alongside Supervisor Harvey Milk, was moved to create the symbol while standing in the city's Civic Center staring at all of the different flags flying at the various government buildings.
The progress flag was then created in 2018 to include black and brown stripes to represent marginalized LGBTQ+ communities of color, along with the colors pink, light blue and white, which are used on the Transgender Pride Flag.
The Bay Area has long served as the engine behind queer activism and 49ers P.L.U.S. is inspired to be the catalyst in the NFL for LGBTQ+ representation and inclusivity.
P.L.U.S. Mission
Facilitate discussion, celebration, and advocacy regarding current and historic events within the 49ers organization. The group is motivated to educate, advise and welcome employees through community events and communication, providing authentic perspectives and experiences in conjunction with 49ers Pride.
