Even before draft night, Cowing was a fan of the 49ers. "Growing up playing football, the 49ers were always one of my dream teams when watching the NFL," Cowing said. "This is kind of just a full circle moment. Fulfilling my dreams, being picked up by one of my dream teams." Cowing spent his childhood looking up to the best receivers in the game, including 49ers legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer Jerry Rice.
College
Was the third of three fourth-round draft picks (135th overall) selected by the 49ers in this year's draft out of Arizona. Appeared in 54 games (45 starts) over five seasons at Arizona (2022-23) and Texas-El Paso (2019-21) and registered 316 catches for 4,477 yds. and 33 TDs. In 2023, appeared in 13 games (12 starts) and tallied 90 recepts. for 848 yds. and a program record 13 TDs, earning All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention for the second-consecutive season. He was also named the Valero Alamo Bowl Offensive MVP after recording 152 yds. and 2 TDs on 7 recepts. In 2022, earned All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention after leading the conference with 85 recepts. for 1,034 yds. and 7 TDs. At UTEP in 2021, hauled in 69 recepts. for 1,354 yds. and 7 TDs, earning First-Team All-Conference USA honors. During the shortened 2020 COVID-19 season, registered 41 recepts. for 691 yds. and 3 TDs, earning Second-Team All-Conference USA honors.
