Here are your top 49ers storylines for Saturday, July 27th.
New and Notable
Training Camp Day 3: Defense Shines, Diving into the OL Rotation
- Players who appeared to be taking a veteran rest day included defensive lineman Nick Bosa, tight end George Kittle, cornerback Charvarius Ward, running back Christian McCaffrey, offensive lineman Jake Brendel and defensive lineman Maliek Collins. Several other players sat out of practice, however, reasons for their non-participation were not announced.
- Cornerback Isaac Yiadom opened up team drills by breaking up a pass intended for wideout Deebo Samuel Sr.
- Similar to Thursday's practice, we saw several new offensive line groupings. Part of the reason for these new lineups is likely due to players sitting out of practice on Friday. Nick Zakelj and Ben Bartch both got time at center with the while Dominick Puni took reps at right guard.
- Second-year safety Ji'Ayir Brown got his hands on a pass intended for Samuel Sr.
- Linebacker Fred Warner forced a fumble and Yiadom recovered the loose ball.
- Special teams did their first kickoff return work of training camp and had returners working in pairs. Players working in at kick returner included Elijah Mitchell, Jordan Mason, Ronnie Bell, Kyle Juszczyk, Trent Taylor, Patrick Taylor Jr., Terique Owens, Cody Schrader, Danny Gray and Samuel Sr.

The San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan announced the team's 2024 Bill Walsh NFL Diversity Coaching Fellows โ Ronald Blair III, Pierre Cormier, Salvador Delgado, Jordan Holland, Angel Matute, Rusty McKinney and Drew Smith.

49ers Sign WR Malik Turner, Place T Trent Williams on Reserve/Did Not Report List
The San Francisco 49ers announced they have signed WR Malik Turner to a one-year deal. In order to make room on the roster, the team has placed T Trent Williams on the Reserve/Did Not Report List.
Turner (6-2, 202) originally entered the NFL after signing with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent on July 29, 2018. Throughout his five-year career with the Seahawks (2018-19), Dallas Cowboys (2020-21) and San Francisco 49ers (2022) he has appeared in 44 games (three starts) and registered 29 receptions for 414 yards and four touchdowns. Turner appeared in three games with the 49ers in 2022. He then spent time with the Las Vegas Raiders and Houston Texans practice squads and spent the 2023 training camp with the Indianapolis Colts.
A 28-year-old native of Springfield, IL, Turner attended the University of Illinois where he appeared in 46 games (35 starts) and registered 143 receptions for 1,804 yards and 10 touchdowns.
