The San Francisco 49ers Charlie Wedemeyer Coach of the Week award for Week 8 goes to Earl Hansen from Palo Alto High School.
With an undefeated season on the horizon, the Palo Alto Vikings took another step towards that goal with a league-clinching victory over the Homestead Mustangs, 35-13.
As was the case with most of the season, Palo Alto turned in a strong offensive effort headed by quarterback Christoph Bono, who finished the night with 253 passing yards and three total touchdowns. On the receiving end of five of those passes was Davante Adams, who amassed 133 receiving yards and one touchdown.
The defense showed it was prepared for the postseason push by limiting the Mustangs to 163 total yards. Led by linebacker Michael Cullen, strong safety T.J. Braff, and defensive end Kevin Anderson, the Vikings did an excellent job of limiting the Mustangs time of possession and scoring opportunities.
"Everybody in this league is pretty good," Hansen said, "we had to overcome some injuries, but we showed resiliency in that game."
As the regular season heads into the home stretch, the Vikings are looking towards a CCS championship and possibly a state bowl bid. Their consistently strong play in the second half of the season makes a strong case for them going deep into the playoffs.
For Palo Alto's outstanding team effort, the San Francisco 49ers have selected Coach Earl Hansen as the Charlie Wedemeyer High School Coach of the Week.
In addition to being named Coach of the Week, Coach Hansen and the Palo Alto High School football program will receive $1,000 from the 49ers Foundation.
