A look at the full, active 49ers roster for the 2014 season. If jersey number in photo differs from that listed in the description, the latter is correct.
August 30: 49ers Release 19 Players, Set 53-man Roster
The 49ers have released 19 players: offensive tackle Carter Bykowski, tight end Asante Cleveland, wide receiver Lance Lewis, long snapper Kevin McDermott, cornerback Darryl Morris, guard Al Netter, defensive lineman Lawrence Okoye, wide receiver Kassim Osgood, offensive tackle Michael Philipp, nose tackle Mike Purcell, offensive guard Ryan Seymour, linebacker Shayne Skov, running back Alfonso Smith, offensive guard Adam Snyder, safety C.J. Spillman, linebacker Chase Thomas, safety Bubba Ventrone, wide receiver L'Damian Washington and running back Glenn Winston.
The team also placed cornerback Kenneth Acker and fullback Will Tukuafu on the Injured Reserve List.
August 25: 49ers Waive Seven, Trim Roster to 75
The San Francisco 49ers announced on Monday that they have waived the following seven players: quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson, safety D.J. Campbell, tight end Kevin Greene, running back Jewel Hampton, punter Colton Schmidt, linebacker Kion Wilson and wide receiver Devon Wylie. The team also released wide receiver David Reed.
Additionally, the 49ers placed running back Marcus Lattimore, fullback Trey Millard, cornerback Keith Reaser and guard Brandon Thomas on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury List. Linebacker NaVorro Bowman, tight end Garrett Celek and defensive tackle Kaleb Ramsey were placed on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform List.
The 49ers also released linebacker Blake Costanzo from the Injured Reserve List.
The 49ers roster currently stands at 75 and must be trimmed to 53 by 1:00 p.m. on Aug. 30.
August 19: DL Dorsey Signed
The San Francisco 49ers have signed DL Glenn Dorsey to a two-year contract extension through the 2016 season.
"Glenn is a true pro who has quickly become a valued contributor to our organization both on and off the field," said 49ers general manager Trent Baalke. "He is a quick study and a very good football player that has earned this extension, and we look forward to his future contributions."
During his first season with San Francisco in 2013, Dorsey (6-1, 297) appeared in all 16 regular season games (13 starts), in addition to the team's three (two starts) postseason contests. He recorded two sacks, tallied 100 tackles for the first time in his career and helped the team rank fourth in rushing yards allowed per game (95.9) in the NFL. He was also selected by his coaches and teammates as the 49ers Defensive Blue Collar Player of the Year.
July 23: LB Costanzo to IR, LB Wilson Signed
The San Francisco 49ers have signed LB Kion Wilson to a one-year deal. To make room on the roster, the team has placed LB Blake Costanzo on the Injured Reserve List.
Since signing as an undrafted free agent with the San Diego Chargers in 2010, Wilson (6-1, 239) has played in 15 games (two starts) and registered nine tackles on defense and 11 on special teams. As a rookie in 2010, he spent time on the Chargers practice squad and active roster, appearing in three games. In 2011, Wilson was on the Chargers practice squad before being signed to the Carolina Panthers active roster on November 16, 2011. He was later waived by the Panthers following training camp in 2012. Wilson signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2013, and spent time on the team's active roster and practice squad that year, registering nine tackles in seven games (two starts) for the Steelers.
Costanzo (6-1, 235) was signed by the 49ers on June 3, 2014.
August 12: NT Ian Williams Activated off PUP List
The 49ers activated NT Ian Williams from the Active/Physically Unable to Perform List.
Williams was a bright spot for the San Francisco 49ers in the early stages of 2013. The 6-foot-1, 305-pound nose tackle, however, had his moment abruptly taken away with a season-ending ankle injury in Week 2 of the regular season.
Williams, an undrafted fourth-year pro, earned San Francisco's starting nose tackle position following a challenging training camp battle with incoming veteran Glenn Dorsey.
August 9: WR Lewis Signed, Jacobs Waived
The 49ers signed wide receiver Lance Lewis to a two-year deal. To make room on the roster, the team has waived/injured wide receiver Chuck Jacobs.
Lewis originally signed with the Washington Redskins as an undrafted free agent on May 3, 2012, and was later waived by Washington on Aug. 27, 2012. He returned to the Redskins on May 14, 2013, and was waived on Aug. 31, 2013. The following day, he was added to Washington's practice squad. He was later elevated to the active roster on Nov. 21, 2013, where he saw action in three games prior to his release on Dec. 18, 2013. He was then signed to the Dallas Cowboys practice squad on Dec. 20, 2013, where he spent the remainder of the season. He signed a reserve/futures contract with the Cowboys on Dec. 30, 2013, and was later waived on May 12, 2014.
Jacobs was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the 49ers on May 7, 2013, and spent the entire 2013 season on the team's practice squad.
August 4: RB Winston Signed, Hunter Waived
The 49ers signed running back Glenn Winston to a three-year deal.
To make room on the roster, the team waived/injured running back [Kendall Hunter. An undrafted rookie free agent, Winston spent two seasons at Michigan State before finishing his collegiate career at Northwood University. Hunter was originally drafted by the 49ers in the fourth round (115th overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft. He has played in 43 games (one start) and rushed for 1,202 yards and seven touchdowns on 262 carries over the past three seasons.
August 3: WR Washington Claimed, Baldwin Waived
The 49ers announced they have claimed wide receiver L'Damian Washington off waivers from the Dallas Cowboys. To make room on the roster, the team has waived WR Jon Baldwin.
Washington (6-4, 200) originally signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2014. He was later waived by the Cowboys on August 2, 2014. Baldwin was acquired via trade from the Kansas City Chiefs on August 19, 2013.
July 29: QB Faulkner Waived, T Philipp Claimed
The 49ers claimed tackle Michael Philipp off waivers from the Miami Dolphins. In order to make room for Philipp on the roster, the team waived quarterback Kory Faulkner.
Philipp originally signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2014. He was then waived by Cleveland on May 19 and later signed with the Miami Dolphins on May 28.
Faulkner was signed as an undrafted free agent on May 12, 2014.
July 29: RB Smith Signed, G Fonoti Waived
The 49ers signed running back Alfonso Smith to a one-year deal. In order to make room on the roster, the team has waived/injured guard Fouimalo Fonoti.
Smith originally signed with the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent in 2010. He spent four seasons with the Cardinals, playing in 43 games and registering 48 carries for 156 yards and two touchdowns, while adding 13 special teams tackles. In 2013, Smith appeared in all 16 regular season games and registered 18 carries for 54 yards and one touchdown and had six special teams tackles. Fonoti signed as an undrafted free agent with the 49ers on May 12, 2014.
July 27: 49ers Activate Lynch, Martin
The team announced linebacker [Aaron Lynch has been taken off the Active/Physically Unable to Perform List and center [Marcus Martin was removed from the Active/Non-Football Injury List.
July 25: 49ers Activate Ellington, Sign Nelson
The 49ers elevated wide receiver [Bruce Ellingtonfrom the Active/Non-Football Injury List to the active roster. The team also signed tight end/long snapper Kyle Nelson to a one-year deal.
Nelson rejoins the 49ers after two prior stints with the team. He spent a portion of the offseason workouts in 2013 as well as part of training camp in 2012 with San Francisco.
July 23: Bowman to PUP List
On the same day the San Francisco 49ers reported for training camp, the team placed NaVorro Bowman on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform List.
The All-Pro inside linebacker, who suffered a devastating knee injury in San Francisco's NFC Championship game loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Jan. 19, is now eligible to be activated at any point in training camp. Bowman has been rehabbing his torn ACL at team headquarters throughout the offseason.
It's worth noting that active PUP players who are on the designated list at the start of the regular season will be ineligible to play in the first six regular season games.
July 23: TE Celek to PUP List
The 49ers have placed TE Garret Celek on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform List.
