The San Francisco 49ers announced on Monday that they have tendered one-year contracts to exclusive rights free agents LB Carl Bradford and NT Mike Purcell.
Bradford (6-1, 248) was claimed off waivers from the Green Bay Packers on December 19, 2016. He appeared in two games with the 49ers last season and registered two tackles on defense and two tackles on special teams. Bradford appeared in the first four games of his career in 2016 with the Packers and registered two tackles on defense and one tackle on special teams before being waived by the team on December 17, 2016.
A 24-year-old native of Norco, CA, Bradford spent three years at Arizona State University (2011-13), where he appeared in 40 games (28 starts) and registered 154 tackles, 21.5 sacks, two interceptions, 10 passes defensed, six forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He earned All-Pac-12 honors as a sophomore (Honorable Mention) and junior (First-Team).
In 2016, Purcell (6-3, 303) appeared in 15 games (five starts) and finished with 26 tackles and one forced fumble. He has appeared in 25 games (eight starts) and registered 48 tackles, 2.0 sacks and one forced fumble since signing with San Francisco as an undrafted free agent in 2013.
A 25-year-old native of Highlands Ranch, CO, Purcell attended the University of Wyoming, where he played in 42 games (36 starts) and registered 197 tackles, four sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, two passes defensed and three blocked kicks.
