The San Francisco 49ers today announced they have placed tight end Blake Bell on the Injured Reserve List and signed tight end Jim Dray to a one-year deal. San Francisco also signed linebacker Brandon Chubb to the practice squad.
Dray (6-5, 255) was originally drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the 7th round (233rd overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Stanford University. Throughout his seven-year NFL career, he has appeared in 91 games (37 starts) and registered 56 receptions for 605 yards and three touchdowns with the Cardinals (2010-13), Cleveland Browns (2014-15) and Buffalo Bills (2016). This season with Buffalo, he saw action in four games with one start prior to his release from the team on October 4, 2016.
In five years at Stanford (2005-09), Dray started 39 career games where he registered 41 receptions for 455 yards and seven touchdowns. As a senior in 2009, he eared Second-Team All-PAC 12 honors.
Chubb (6-1, 245) originally signed with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent on May 6, 2016, spent training camp with the team and was released on September 3. He signed to the Rams practice squad on September 5, was waived on September 12 and later spent time with the Detroit Lions practice squad before his release on December 17.
Chubb appeared in 48 games (36 starts) at Wake Forest University where he registered 326 tackles, 3.5 sacks, one interception, seven passes defensed, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Bell (6-6, 252) appeared in 13 games this season where he caught four passes for 85 yards (21.3 average).
