49ers Place Jimmy Garoppolo on IR, Call up Nick Mullens and Announce Other Roster Moves

The San Francisco 49ers announced on Wednesday that they have placed QB Jimmy Garoppolo on the Injured Reserve List and promoted QB Nick Mullens to the active roster from the team's practice squad. The team also signed DL Ryan Delaire, OL Christian DiLauro and DB Dexter McCoil to the team's practice squad.

Mullens (6-1, 210) originally signed with the 49ers as an undrafted rookie free agent on May 4, 2017. After spending his entire rookie season on the team's practice squad, he was signed to a Reserve/Future contract with San Francisco on January 12, 2018. After spending 2018 training camp with the team, he was waived by the team on September 1 and signed to the practice squad the following day.

A 23-year-old native of Birmingham, AL, Mullens attended the University of Southern Mississippi where he appeared in 44 games (41 starts) and completed 928 of 1,546 attempts for 11,994 yards and 87 touchdowns. As a junior in 2015, he started all 14 games and set single-season school records for passing yards (4,476) and touchdown passes (38).

Mullens will wear number 4.

Garoppolo (6-2, 225) started each of the team's first three games this season and completed 53 of 89 passing attempts (59.6%) for 718 yards and five touchdowns.

Delaire (6-4, 260) originally entered the NFL after signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted rookie free agent on May 8, 2015. After he was waived by Tampa Bay on September 5, 2015, he was signed to the Washington Redskins practice squad on September 7, 2015. On September 30, 2015, he was signed to the Carolina Panthers active roster where he went on to appear in 15 games and register 14 tackles, 3.5 sacks and one pass defensed in two seasons (2015-16). He also appeared in one playoff game for Carolina in 2015 and registered one tackle. Delaire was waived by the Panthers on July 25, 2017 and later signed with the Indianapolis Colts on August 11, 2018. He was waived by Indianapolis on September 2.

A 26-year-old native of Windsor, CT, Delaire attended Towson University for two seasons (2013-14) where he started 27 games and registered 132 tackles, 32 tackles for loss, 22.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries and four passes defensed. He transferred to Towson after three years (2010-12) at the University of Massachusetts. At UMass, he appeared in 18 games and finished with 28 tackles, six tackles for loss, three sacks and one forced fumble.

DiLauro (6-6, 300) originally entered the NFL after signing with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted rookie free agent on May 4, 2018. He was waived by the team on September 1 and signed to the team's practice squad the following day. He was released by Cleveland on September 4.

A 24-year-old native of Uniontown, OH, DiLauro attended the University of Illinois (2013-17) where he appeared in 48 games (36 starts) along the offensive line.

McCoil (6-4, 220) originally joined the 49ers in 2017 after the team claimed him off waivers from the Los Angeles Chargers on October 9, 2017. He went on to appear in eight games for San Francisco and registered one tackle on defense and four special teams tackles. McCoil was waived by the team on April 30, 2018, re-signed with the 49ers on August 17 and was later released on September 1.
