As a freshman, was named Big Ten Freshman Defensive MVP by ESPN.com, as he ranked first among Big Ten freshmen in sacks (4.0) and TFL (12). Redshirted in 2010. Received his bachelor's degree in advertising in December of 2014. Attended Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati, OH) HS where he was selected Great Catholic League South Co-Athlete of the Year after leading the conference in sacks (11), as a senior. A team captain for the Gamecocks, set a South Carolina school record and led the SEC with 3,564 passing yds. (274.2 yds. per game avg.), in 2014. Ranked third in the SEC with 26 TD passes, which was the second-highest single-season mark in school history. Also led the conference and set the school record with 270 completions and 451 pass attempts in a season. Was the 2014 Freddie Solomon Community Spirit Award winner.
