The San Francisco 49ers are slated to have seven selections (with a potential for additional compensatory picks) in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft as the team looks to rebound from their 2024 campaign. Currently, their first selection will come early on Day 1 with the 11th overall pick and includes a total of four picks in Rounds 1 to 3.
Compensatory picks will be an important part of the 49ers draft stock equation. As it stands, the team was awarded a third-round special compensatory pick because of the hiring of DeMeco Ryans as the Houston Texans head coach and Ran Carthon as the Tennessee Titans general manager following the 2022 season.
According to overthecap.com, the team is projected to receive three compensatory picks due to the free agency departures of defensive lineman Chase Young, quarterback Sam Darnold and wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud III last season.
With a potential for double-digit picks in 2025, the 49ers would be positioned well to reload the roster with young talent that is ready to contribute.
In 2024, the rookie class proved to be essential. Many of San Francisco's first-year players logged significant reps as the team battled through difficult injuries to its superstars.
Third-rounder Dominick Puni started at right guard for all 17 of the 49ers regular season contests while safety Malik Mustapha (12 starts), cornerback Renardo Green (seven starts) and more stepped up to close out the year.
"The lifeblood of your organization needs to be strong drafts because it gives you young players that you have under contract," president of football operations and general manager John Lynch said in the 2024 closing press conference. "And so, I think we had multiple, I think seven players that were starters off that draft class, whether we expected them to be. They did, and they gained really valuable experience... We're really excited about this rookie class and that movement. We've got to continue to add to it."
