Peter Volmut is in his first season as director, football communications with the 49ers. He previously spent two seasons (2022-23) as the senior manager of football communications, three seasons as the manager of football communications (2019-21), two seasons (2017-18) as the coordinator of football communications, two seasons (2015-16) as a football communications assistant and two seasons (2013-14) as a public relations intern with the team.
Volmut serves as an alternative resource for local, national, and international media and their inquiries regarding San Francisco 49ers news/information. He also aids in the production of the team's weekly publications along with the facilitation of coordinator, assistant coaches, and player interview requests. In addition, he works jointly with the vice president, football communications to monitor the state of the 49ers brand and entities to foresee any upcoming topics that are to be addressed at the appropriate time.
Throughout his time with the 49ers, Volmut has been part of teams that have reached the NFC Championship Game five times (2013, 2019, 2021-23) as well as two Super Bowl appearances (LIV & LVIII). He has worked closely with multiple members of the San Francisco 49ers organization that have gone on to be either general managers, head coaches or offensive/defensive/special teams coordinators with other NFL franchises. Earlier in his career, he aided in the promotion of Levi's Stadium, which opened in 2014, along with communications support at all stadium events (Super Bowl 50, Copa America, WrestleMania, Pac-12 Football Championship Game, Foster Farms Bowl, concerts, etc.).
In 2019 and 2023, Volmut and the 49ers communications department executed main broadcasting needs for all NFL and local partners in the lead-up to San Francisco's appearances in Super Bowls LIV & LVIII. The list included the coordination of player needs for the NFL's Opening Night, pregame shows and video board materials for both internal, local and national outlets.
Volmut was part of a 49ers public relations staff that for the first time in franchise history won the 2024 Pete Rozelle Award by the Professional Football Writers of America (PFWA). The Rozelle Award is given to the NFL club public relations staff that consistently strives for excellence in its dealings and relationships with the media. The award is named for Rozelle, NFL commissioner from 1960-89, who started his distinguished career in sports PR roles. earned the award. In addition to winning the 35th Rozelle Award, Volmut and his PR staffs have been named a finalist an additional two times (2013-14).
Prior to joining the 49ers, Volmut spent the 2013 offseason as the public relations/community communications intern with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Before entering the NFL, he served as the public relations summer intern with the Milwaukee Admirals of the American Hockey League (AHL) in 2010. He also worked with the Community Leadership department of S.C. Johnson & Son, Inc. in Racine, WI, from 2007-08.
A native of Racine, WI, Volmut received his degree from Valparaiso University in public relations, with a minor in sports promotions and currently resides in San Jose with his wife, Rhiannon, and their two daughters, Sloane and Taryn.
