BUILDING A CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM
As chief executive officer of the San Francisco 49ers, Jed York oversees all aspects of the organization. Now in his 20th year with the team and 15th as CEO, York has been a driving force behind the 49ers success on and off the field during that time. York recognizes and shares the ongoing passion of the team's faithful fans.
During York's tenure, the team has experienced great success having won five NFC West Division titles (2011-12, 2019 and 2022-23), advanced to seven NFC Championship Games (2011-13, 2019 & 2021-23) and three Super Bowls (Super Bowl XLVII, LIV and LVIII). His strong leadership was also instrumental in providing the team and its fans a state-of-the-art new home. On April 19, 2012, the Santa Clara Stadium Authority broke ground on Levi's Stadium and enlisted the 49ers to manage the construction process, which achieved a ribbon cutting just two years later.
Designed to set a new standard for the stadium experience, Levi's Stadium has become known as one of the most iconic sports and entertainment venues in the world. The building has garnered international acclaim having been named 2015 Sports Venue of the Year by the Sports Business Journal and Venue of the Year at the 2015 StadiumBusiness Awards in Barcelona, Spain. Leveraging technology and sustainability, Levi's Stadium has also generated international acclaim for its environmental responsibility. For its green innovation – inclusive of being the first NFL stadium to twice be LEED certified – Levi's Stadium was named the 2016 Green Sports Alliance Environmental NFL Innovators of the Year and the 2017 StadiumBusiness Awards Environmental Stadium of the Year. In 2024, the Green Sports Alliance honored Levi's Stadium in their Play to Zero Awards for the venue's exceptional conservation of energy and water.
Now in its 11th season of operation, Levi's Stadium has already successfully hosted an NFC Championship game, Super Bowl 50, the 2019 College Football Playoff National Championship Game, WrestleMania 31, the Copa America Centenario and CONCACAF Gold Cup, the 2015 NHL Stadium Series, the International Championship Cup featuring soccer powers such as Manchester United and FC Barcelona, multiple Pac-12 Football Championship Games, and stadium concert tours headlined by Beyoncé and U2. Most recently, the venue was selected as one of 16 host sites for FIFA World CupTM 2026 and Super Bowl LX in 2026.
RECOGNIZING THE 49ERS FAITHFUL
A 49ers fan since birth, York recognizes that the success of the 49ers hinges on the team's faithful fans, and he is committed to honoring them for their passion and enthusiasm.
Since the time Levi's Stadium was just a concept, creating the ultimate game day experience for 49ers fans has been at the core of the York family's vision. To design the venue and bring that vision to life, York and the 49ers incorporated one of the Bay Area's most notable natural resources – innovative technology. As York has repeatedly stated, Levi's Stadium may not be the biggest stadium, but it will be the smartest.
With technology woven into its backbone, the building not only allows visitors to customize their own individual experience through the use of the Levi's Stadium App, but it is also able to seamlessly evolve throughout the decades to come. In addition to groundbreaking design elements that bring fans closer to the game, the venue is a showcase for the region's sustainable efforts and world-class wine and cuisine. Fans have also come to recognize Levi's Stadium as a year-round destination for private events and a museum dedicated to honoring the team's storied history, while also using football as a means to educate Bay Area youth.
Under York's leadership, the team established the Edward J. DeBartolo, Sr. 49ers Hall of Fame in 2009, to commemorate the significant accomplishments of some of the team's biggest stars and key contributors. Named for his grandfather and the beloved patriarch of the 49ers, the Hall of Fame automatically inducted those 49ers greats who have either had their jersey numbers retired by the team or have been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. York, shortly thereafter, announced the Hall of Fame's inaugural inductee, his uncle, Edward J. DeBartolo, Jr., who was enshrined during the 2009 season. The 49ers Hall of Fame now has a home inside the 49ers Museum at Levi's Stadium.
Also located inside the 49ers Museum is the Denise DeBartolo York Education Center, which provides learning platforms that connect, inspire and engage K-8 students from Santa Clara and throughout the Bay Area throughout the year. Featuring content-rich lessons in science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics, the highly interactive center promotes physical activity and valuable life skills. Since the program's inception in 2014, the program has provided trajectory and mindset-changing experiences to more than 250,000 participants.
CARRYING ON THE FAMILY'S LEGACY
York's roots with the 49ers run deep. He is the oldest child of Denise and John York, the co-chairmen of the team. York's uncle and godfather, Eddie DeBartolo, also known to fans as "Mr. D", has long served as a mentor.
York began his career as a financial analyst at Guggenheim Partners, a diversified financial services firm. He worked in the firm's New York office in several areas, including private wealth management, hedge funds risk analysis, and collateralized debt obligations. York currently serves on three key NFL committees: Stadium, Media O&O (NFL's owned and operated media businesses), Business Ventures, as well as Fan Engagement and Major Events, assigned to address facets of National Football League business.
Born and raised in Youngstown, OH, York was a student athlete at Cardinal Mooney High School where he was captain of the baseball team as well as student body president. After high school, York decided to carry on a family tradition by attending the University of Notre Dame, where he earned a degree in both finance and history. York was a member of Phi Alpha Theta, the National History Honors Society.
York credits his parents, his uncle Eddie, and his grandfather Edward DeBartolo, Sr. as being positive role models and for teaching him character values such as integrity, a strong work ethic, and respect for others. He is pleased to carry on his family's commitment to community by serving as a board member at Tipping Point Community, CommonSpirit Health Foundation, Chegg, Bay Area Council, Silicon Valley Leadership Group, Operation HOPE, as well as the University of Notre Dame Advisory Council.
Besides his tremendous passion for the 49ers, York enjoys traveling, fishing, and playing cards, which he learned from his grandfather.
Jed lives in the Bay Area with his wife, Danielle, and two sons, Jaxon and Brixton.
