Mick Lombardi is in his first season as the 49ers senior offensive assistant. He joined the 49ers after spending the previous two seasons (2022-23) as the offensive coordinator for the Las Vegas Raiders.
During his tenure with Las Vegas, Lombardi helped the Raiders offense average 321.0 yards per game and 19.7 points per game. In 2023, he helped WR Davante Adams register his fourth-consecutive season with at least 100 receptions and 1,000 receiving yards. He also guided rookie QB Aidan O'Connell to one of the best starts in Raiders franchise history, finishing his rookie season with the most games with a passer rating of 100.0-or-higher (three games) and the second-most passing yards (2,143) in his first 10 starts in franchise history.
In his first season as an offensive coordinator 2022, Lombardi led a Raiders offense that ranked 12th in the NFL in total offense (352.5 yards per game), 12th in scoring offense (23.2 points per game) and tied for 11th in passing offense (231.4 yards per game). With RB Josh Jacobs leading the NFL in rushing yards (1,653) and Adams registering 1,516 receiving yards, Lombardi's unit became just the fifth offense in NFL history, and the first since the 1999 Colts, to feature a 1,500-yard rusher and receiver in the same season. Adams, Jacobs and QB Derek Carr were all named to the 2023 Pro Bowl under Lombardi's guidance.
Prior to his time in Las Vegas, Lombardi spent three seasons (2019-21) with the New England Patriots, his second stint with the team. He served as the wide receivers coach for two seasons (2020-21) and led a unit that caught 647 of their 944 targets (68.5%), ranking 10th in the NFL in reception percentage during that span. In 2021, Lombardi helped WR Kendrick Bourne register career highs in receptions (55) and receiving yards (800) and tie his career high in touchdowns (five). In 2020, WR Julian Edelman became just the second member of the Patriots to record 600 career receptions. In 2019, Lombardi served as the assistant quarterbacks coach, helping QB Tom Brady throw for more than 4,000 yards for the 11th time in his career.
Lombardi rejoined the Patriots after serving two seasons (2017-18) as an offensive assistant/assistant quarterbacks coach with the New York Jets. While in New York, Lombardi worked closely with QB Josh McCown, helping him register career highs in passing yards (2,926), completion percentage (67.3%) and passing touchdowns (18) in 2017.
Before his tenure with the Jets, Lombardi spent four seasons (2013-16) in multiple roles with the San Francisco 49ers. He spent the 2016 season as an offensive quality control coach after serving as a defensive assistant in 2015 and an offensive assistant in 2014. He began his first stint with the 49ers as the assistant to the head coach in 2013. Lombardi entered the NFL as a scouting assistant in New England, where he spent two seasons (2011-12) after being promoted to a full-time post when his training camp internship ended. He began his coaching career at Fordham University, serving as a student assistant coach for the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
A native of Ocean City, NJ, Lombardi earned his bachelor's degree in communications from Fordham in 2011. His father, Michael, served as an executive for the 49ers, Raiders, Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles, as well as an assistant to the Patriots coaching staff from 2014-16. Lombardi and his wife, Michelle, have two sons, Dominic and Michael, and a daughter, Sienna.
