The San Francisco 49ers Charlie Wedemeyer Coach of the Week award for Week 3 goes to Coach Jason Seli from Calmont High School.
Last Friday, the Carlmont Scots defeated the Aragon Dons 20-6.
This year's Carlmont football team had never seen their school beat Aragon in their lifetime as it had been 21 years since the Scots walk away from a meeting with the Dons victorious. Even though Aragon is two divisions above Carlmont, the Scots were ready to end this long-standing losing streak. This past Friday they were able to do just that.
In the game, the Scots put together a monumental win with their great team play and tireless preparation.
"We put a lot of work into studying during the week to be able to react instead of think during the game," Seli said. "We want to run around and fly to the football."
All the studying helped the Scots defense turn in a dominant performance. Junior cornerback Robby Demattei collected three interceptions on the night, while senior outside linebacker Kenton Buckley's tenacious play created two fumbles and earned him three sacks. Not to be outdone, sophomore middle linebacker Mark Concilla recorded an interception and recovered three fumbles.
Offensively, junior quarterback Jack Karasky directed his team's scoring drives and kept his defense off the field by converting on crucial third downs. Senior running back Robert Johnson had a big night with 191 rushing yards and nearly 265 all-purpose yards.
Seli said the win was great for his program, and that it helps build the kids confidence in the fact that the hard work they put in this past offseason and at practice will pay off for them in the end.
For Carlmont's win and an outstanding team effort, the San Francisco 49ers have selected Coach Jason Seli as the Charlie Wedemeyer High School Coach of the Week.
In addition to being named Coach of the Week, Seli and the Carlmont High School football program will receive $1,000 from the 49ers Foundation.
