A postgame sing-a-long session from Niners wideout Quinton Patton in Week 1 led to a meet and greet with the singer he was impersonating in Week 2.
Patton belted out lyrics from his go-to jam after a season-opening victory over the Los Angeles Rams.
The song? Anthony Hamilton's "Cool" featuring David Banner.
When the 49ers posted the video of Patton singing last week on Instagram, word quickly spread to Hamilton's own social media channels. The platinum recording artist reposted the clip for his 403k followers on Instagram.
Shortly after, a music journalist named DeAndra Alex of "Set Magazine," connected Patton with Hamilton, who resides in Charlotte, N.C.
Prior to San Francisco's Week 2 game against the Carolina Panthers, Hamilton visited with Patton at the Niners team hotel.
"It just so happened we were playing the Panthers, and he was right down the street," Patton said on Tuesday. "He came by and we had a quick little meet and greet. That was it. He's a cool guy."
Hamilton, 45, shared stories of his own football career and his background playing the sport as a safety.
Patton said it was a "humbling" experience to meet one of his favorite artists. He told the singer how much he enjoyed his music, including "Cool."
"That's just my happy song," the wide receiver said. "When you hear that song, the beat, it just hits you. It's a feel-good song no matter what you're feeling."
