Notes from Tuesday's OTA

The 49ers hit the field for the second consecutive day of OTA's on Tuesday.

After being excused from Monday's session quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan returned to practice, and worked with the third-string unit.

Tackle Jonas Jennings missed his second day of practice, but head coach Mike Nolan said he expected the offensive lineman to be here on Thursday.

Wide receiver Arnaz Battle remains a no-show.

"Anyone who is not here, I'm not going to talk much about," said Nolan.

In Battle's absence, Nolan said that Ashley Lelie, Jason Hill, Josh Morgan and even Robert Jordan are getting more reps at receiver.

"We do have an offense going in and all the guys who are here are benefiting from being here," said Nolan. "It is a great opportunity for all of the guys – especially coming off a year like last year where we did not show the progress that we made the first two seasons, it is a great opportunity. So all of the guys who are working are getting a chance and some of the guys who would not even get a look normally are getting a look right now. I am excited that Isaac Bruce and Bryant Johnson are here. They are taking every rep with the first group and that's a great sign. It is a great opportunity and you want to take advantage of those."

Safety Dashon Goldson turned heads at the team's mini camp in early May with a number of turnovers, something he continued upon on Tuesday when he stole a pass over the middle that was intended for tight end Vernon Davis. Rookie safety Lewis Baker also got into the turnover mix with an interception of his own.

The team will enjoy Wednesday off before resuming for practices on Thursday and Friday. Those practices will be closed to the media.
