- In the NFC West Report, we keep you covered on the San Francisco 49ers divisional rivals.*
St. Louis Rams
Week 2: 19-17 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Storylines:In his first start in Shaun Hill's stead, quarterback Austin Davis was 22-of-29 for 235 yards passing... Davis, who was entered training camp third on the depth chart behind Hill and since-injured starter Sam Bradford, will sit in Week 3 if Hill is ready to return from high thigh injury... Greg Zeurlein's fourth field goal, a 38-yarder with 38 seconds left, proved to be the difference in this one... Earlier in the week, the Rams extended the contract of defensive end Robert Quinn through the 2019 season.
Week 3:St. Louis hosts the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
Arizona Cardinals
Week 2: 25-14 victory over the New York Giants.
Storylines: Ex-49ers punt returner Ted Ginn Jr. returned one 71 yards for a score... Backup quarterback Drew Stanton started and saw action for the first time since 2010 because Carson Palmer had a nerve issue in his right (throwing) shoulder flare up two hours before kickoff... Stanton passed for 167 yards and led three scoring drives, including his first two series' under center... Andre Ellington supported his new signal-caller with 91 rushing yards on 15 carries... The Cards have come back from a deficit in both of their victories this season... AZCardinals.com reported Monday that outside linebacker John Abraham would return to the team instead of retiring.
Week 3:Arizona hosts the 49ers on Sunday.
Seattle Seahawks
Week 2: 30-21 defeat to the San Diego Chargers.
Storylines:The Chargers played keep-away from the Seahawks, possessing the ball for 42 minutes and 15 seconds of the 60-minute ballgame... As a result, running back Marshawn Lynch had just six carries... Play-making wideout Percy Harvin made the most of his two carries, scoring on one 51-yard scamper and showing that he'll be a threat when healthy this season... The Seahawks linebacking corps couldn't cover Chargers tight end Antonio Gates, who caught three touchdown passes from Philip Rivers... Did the San Diego heat affect the secondary? Safeties Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor as well as cornerback Byron Maxwell all left the game temporarily because of cramps.
Week 3:Seattle hosts the Denver Broncos on Sunday.
