The 49ers have released an unofficial depth chart leading up to the team's first preseason game against the Denver Broncos on Aug. 8.
The depth chart doesn't mean anything in terms of position battles being finalized, but it does give an early glimpse of how the competitions are shaking out at notable positions.
Ian Williams, for example, is penciled in with the first-team defense at nose tackle. C.J. Spillman is also with the first-team at free safety. Glenn Dorsey and Eric Reid are the backups at those respective positions.
On offense, a logjam of receivers are in the mix for the team's No. 2 wideout role. Currently, Kyle Williams is in the driver's seat, but he has not practiced the past week due to an undisclosed injury. Behind Williams, Marlon Moore and Chad Hall are both listed as second-team receivers.
More on Friday night's training camp session, new wideouts on the roster and more can be found in today's Morning Tailgate.
Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reviewed Vic Fangio's comments on Nnamdi Asomugha.
Cam Inman of the San Jose Mercury News runs down the highlights from Friday night.
