KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The San Francisco 49ers offense will get a huge lift in Week 3 with the return of Marquise Goodwin (quad). The team's top deep threat will play against the Kansas City Chiefs after missing last week's home opener. It will be interesting to monitor whether or not Goodwin is limited at all, but I'd expect him to be full go. Dante Pettis should still see several snaps as well. Goodwin was originally injured during the first half of the Week 1 road game against the Minnesota Vikings. He's yet to catch a pass in 2018.
Also of note, Malcolm Smith (hamstring) is active and will be making his long-awaited 49ers debut on Sunday. Smith missed all of 2017 with a pectoral injury and the first two games of 2018 with a hamstring strain. There's some speculation that Smith might get some work at SAM linebacker against the Chiefs while Fred Warner stays at MIKE and Reuben Foster plays WILL.
Unfortunately for San Francisco, its defense will be without strong safety Jaquiski Tartt (shoulder). Antone Exum will start in his place. Here's the 49ers full list of inactives.
- SS Jaquiski Tartt
- OG Joshua Garnett
- WR Richie James
- OG Najee Toran
- OT Shon Coleman
- CB Greg Mabin
- DL Jullian Taylor
The Chiefs will be without star safety Eric Berry (heel), which should hopefully open up a few opportunities for San Francisco's passing game.
