Locked In: George Kittle Signs Four-Year Extension to Stay with the 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers are locking in one of their key veterans for the future. Tight end George Kittle has signed a four-year contract extension to continue his career with the team that drafted him.

A fifth-round pick (146th overall) in the 2017 NFL Draft, Kittle was part of John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan's very first draft class. Since then, he's carved out a historic career, becoming one of the most beloved and impactful players in franchise history.

Over eight seasons, Kittle has appeared in 113 games (105 starts), recording 538 catches for 7,380 yards and 45 touchdowns, averaging an impressive 13.7 yards per reception. His career in The Bay includes six Pro Bowl selections and five All-Pro honors (two First-Team, three Second-Team). In 2024, he completed another standout year with 78 receptions, 1,106 yards, and eight touchdowns, while also receiving votes for the Offensive Player of the Year Award.

Beyond the stats, Kittle's energy, leadership, and toughness have made him the heartbeat of the 49ers offense. Whether he's running through defenders after the catch or laying pancake blocks in the run game, Kittle embodies the physical and selfless style that San Francisco is known for.

"In 2017, our first year with the 49ers, we selected a skinny tight end from Iowa whom we were really excited about. We had high hopes, but no one knew that he would become the player that he is today," president of football operations and general manager John Lynch said. "George's leadership, enthusiasm for the game, for his teammates, and the Faithful are truly unique and special. He is an outstanding representation for the 49ers on the field and is an outstanding representative for the organization off the field with his investment in the local and military communities. He has a great sense of pride in his role and has put in the work to be one of the best tight ends in the NFL."

Off the field, Kittle has made an equally meaningful impact. In 2024, he was honored with the NFL's Salute to Service Award presented by USAA for his outstanding commitment to the military community. Over the years, he has donated more than 400 game tickets, launched a podcast platform with his family to amplify veteran stories, created a free mental health app for veterans, contributed over $250,000 to military nonprofits, and built lasting relationships with families of fallen soldiers and military heroes.

George Kittle's new deal ensures he will remain a key member of the 49ers for years to come, continuing to leave his mark both on and off the field.
