The San Francisco 49ers secured the "W" on the road versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and came back in relatively good health in their first game back from the Bye. Head coach Kyle Shanahan had just three injury updates to share in his Monday press conference call.
- CB Renardo Green: toe injury and will be day-to-day
- TE George Kittle: hamstring irritation and will be monitored this week
- P Mitch Wishnowsky: back flare-up and the team will discuss treatment options
49ers Roster Moves
The 49ers signed CB Nick McCloud to the practice squad on Monday afternoon. Over the course of his four-year career, McCloud has appeared in 40 games (16 starts) with the Cincinnati Bengals (2021) and New York Giants (2022-24) where he registered 74 tackles, 10 passes defensed, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, 1.5 sacks and one interception. Shanahan shared what the seasoned cornerback brings to San Francisco's secondary.
"We're getting another guy in here for depth," Shanahan said. "Chase Lucas also helps out a lot on our scout team. He's had a calf (injury), so he wasn't able to practice last week and won't be able to this week either."
RB Christian McCaffrey's First Game Back
The 49ers star running back closed out his season debut with 19 total touches. He racked up 13 carries for 39 yards and hauled in six catches for 68 yards against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was subbed out occasionally with Jordan Mason, Deebo Samuel Sr. and Isaac Guerendo all rotating in at least once in the backfield. Shanahan discussed the load management the 49ers opted for in McCaffrey's first outing of the 2024 season.
"We'll see how this year goes. I think he had 19 touches which I think is a little less than he had last year," Shanahan said. "It was our first game back with him, and we didn't want him to go too many series in a row. We started taking him out. I think we did it between two series in row in the first half, and we only had one drive in the third quarter. And, once we got into that fourth quarter, we weren't taking him out in the fourth."
