Ralph McGill, a safety who played for the San Francisco 49ers from 1972-79, passed away on Saturday, March 21, at the age of 64.
He leaves his wife, Ella McGill; children, Toran, Nicole, Ralph Jr., Christina, Reyaunte; brothers, Joseph, Timothy; sisters, Peggy, Katie; and grandchildren.
McGill, who was born in Thomasville Ga., was San Francisco's second-round pick in the 1972 NFL Draft out of the University of Tulsa. He played six seasons with the 49ers as a defensive back and kick returner.
McGill recorded eight interceptions and 11 fumble recoveries in eight NFL seasons. His career-best five interceptions took place in 1974 with the 49ers, who went 6-8 that season under coach Dick Nolan.
McGill also played two years for the New Orleans Saints (1978-89).
