DeForest Buckner received recognition on Tuesday for his standout rookie season in 2016.
The San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman has been selected to the Pro Football Writers of America All-Rookie Team. Buckner was a Day 1 starter for the 49ers, and by seasons end, he was playing nearly every defensive snap. Despite missing one game with a foot injury, Buckner totaled six sacks and 73 tackles on the year. The seventh overall pick in 2016 is expected to be a franchise cornerstone for seasons to come.
Buckner is joined by Joey Bosa of the Los Angeles Chargers and Chris Jones of the Kansas City Chiefs to round out the All-Star squad's defensive line.
Bosa and Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott were named Defensive and Offensive Rookie of the Year, respectively. Elliott was the PFWA's overall Rookie of the Year.
Congratulations to Buckner for the honor. Check out the tweet below for the full rundown.
