Charvarius Ward Returns, Brock Purdy and Nick Bosa Injury Updates

The San Francisco 49ers have back-to-back cross-country road trips up next as they look to get back in the win column. In Week 12, the team will travel to Green Bay, Wisconsin for a bout with the Packers, who are fresh a narrow 20-19 victory to the Chicago Bears. The 49ers emerged from their 20-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks with a few injuries that will be closely monitored in the days leading up to this battle of historic NFC franchises.

Injury Breakdown from Head Coach Kyle Shanahan:

  • WR/Punt Returner Jacob Cowing: in concussion protocol
  • LB/Special Teams Tatum Bethune: MCL sprain, expected to be "out awhile"
  • QB Brock Purdy: right shoulder soreness and is considered day-to-day
  • DL Nick Bosa: hip/oblique injury and will be evaluated throughout the week

Shanahan also shared some insight on the working plan for linebacker Dre Greenlaw, who is on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list due to an Achilles injury he suffered in Super Bowl LVIII. He indicated that Greenlaw's Week 12 activities will be similar to those of last week.

"He's doing his mock practices on his own without players, and we hope we'll get him back in practice next week," Shanahan said.

On a positive note, cornerback Charvarius Ward could suit up against the Packers. The veteran corner returned to 49ers HQ after spending a couple weeks away due to a personal matter.

"He was at the game (Sunday)," Shanahan said. "He did some workouts here over the weekend with Dustin Perry, our (head of) strength and conditioning coach. We'll see how this week goes with him."

The 49ers can also look forward to the return of "The People's Tight End" George Kittle. He is expected to practice with the team on Wednesday after being sidelined with a hamstring issue in the team's Week 11 matchup. Kittle did manage to join the team for a couple of workouts in a limited capacity but, ultimately, was not cleared to play.

As for Trent Williams, the 49ers All-Pro left tackle, his status is to be determined. An ankle injury prevented him from practicing the entire week leading up to Sunday's game, and coming out of it, the head coach noted Williams is experiencing some soreness.

"We'll see how he comes in Wednesday," Shanahan said. "I know he battled to play in that game, and (we) really appreciated him getting through it and out there. We'll see how he recovers here going into Wednesday."
