The San Francisco 49ers announced on Tuesday that the team has signed wide receiver DeAndre Smelter to the team's practice squad and released wide receiver Dres Anderson.
Smelter (6-2, 227) was originally drafted by the 49ers in the fourth round (132nd overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft. After spending his entire rookie season on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury List, he was waived from the team on Sept. 3, 2016.

A 24-year-old native of Macon, Ga., Smelter attended Georgia Tech where he appeared in 25 games (20 starts) and registered 56 receptions for 1,060 yards (18.9 avg.) and 11 touchdowns. As a senior, he earned Second-Team All-ACC honors where he started all 12 games in which he appeared and notched 35 receptions for 715 yards (20.4 avg.) and seven touchdowns.
Anderson (6-2, 190) was signed to the team's practice squad on Sept. 4, 2016.
