49ers Sign Veteran WR Louis Murphy

The San Francisco 49ers announced on Monday that they have signed wide receiver Louis Murphy to a one-year deal. In order to make room on the roster, the team has waived/injured linebacker Jimmie Gilbert.

Murphy (6-2, 200) was originally drafted by the Oakland Raiders in the fourth round (124th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft. Throughout his eight-year NFL career with the Raiders (2009-11), Carolina Panthers (2012), New York Giants (2013) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2014-16), he has appeared in 88 games (28 starts) and registered 162 receptions for 2,322 yards and 10 touchdowns.

A 30-year-old native of St. Petersburg, FL, Murphy attended the University of Florida where he appeared in 48 games (26 starts) and totaled 77 receptions for 1,245 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Gilbert (6-5, 230) originally signed with the team as an undrafted rookie free agent on May 4, 2017, out of the University of Colorado. With the Buffaloes, he appeared in 51 games (27 starts) during his four-year career and totaled 147 tackles, 30.5 tackles for loss, 20.0 sacks and eight forced fumbles.
