49ers Sign T Patrick; Sign TE Butler to Practice Squad

The San Francisco 49ers announced Wednesday that they have signed T Chris Patrick. In addition, the team has also signed TE Carson Butler to the practice squad.  

Patrick (6-5, 305) originally signed with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2007. He was released by the Giants that August, and was later signed to the Green Bay Packers practice squad, where he spent the remainder of the season. Patrick was released by the Packers and signed with the Detroit Lions in May 2008. He was released by the Lions and signed by the 49ers, only to be released prior to the regular season. The Philadelphia Eagles then signed him to their practice squad where he was for the first 13 weeks before being signed to their active roster. Patrick was inactive for the final four games of the season and the first round of the playoffs before being active for their final two postseason games. Patrick was released by the Eagles on prior to the 2009 season and was signed to the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad where he spent four games this season.

Patrick, a 25-year-old native of Ithica, MI, played collegiately at Nebraska.

Butler (6-4, 250) was signed by the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent 2009. He was released and then signed to the Lions practice squad on September 6, where he remained until September 30.

Butler, a 22-year-old native of Detroit, MI, played collegiately at Michigan.
