The San Francisco 49ers announced on Tuesday that they have signed rookie free agent T Matt Kopa to a two-year contract. Kopa, who had been pursuing a sixth year of NCAA eligibility, recently halted those efforts to pursue a career in the NFL.
Kopa (6-6, 303) began his collegiate career playing on the Stanford defensive line before making the switch to the offensive line as a junior. He played in 35 career games (seven starts), including starting the final six games of the 2008 season (five at right tackle and one at left guard). Kopa started at right tackle in the 2009 season opener, but missed the rest of the season with an injured foot.
Kopa, a native of Elk Grove, CA, attended Elk Grove HS where he earned numerous accolades as both an offensive and defensive lineman.
