The San Francisco 49ers have signed punter Anthony Santella to a one-year deal.
Santella (6-2, 190) originally entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Carolina Panthers in 2011. He spent training camp with the team that year before being released on August 27, 2011.
A 25-year old native of Wauconda, IL, Santella played collegiately at the University of Illinois, where he was a First-Team All-Big Ten selection by the coaches and a second-team selection by the media, as a senior. He finished his Illinois career ranked second in both career punts with 244 and career punting yardage with 9,964, and finished fourth in punting average at 40.8.
