The San Francisco 49ers announced the re-signing of KR/PR Allen Rossum and the signing of DE Demetric Evans as an unrestricted free agent from the Washington Redskins. Terms of the contracts were not announced.

Rossum (5-8, 178) enters his 12th season and has seen action in 153 career games with 10 starts. Originally a third round (85th pick overall) selection by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1998 NFL Draft, Rossum has established himself as one of the most productive returners in league history.

Rossum saw action in 13 games for the 49ers in 2008, returning 47 kickoffs for 1,259 yards to rank third in the NFC for average yards per kickoff return (26.8 avg.). His 104-yard kickoff return for a touchdown against the Cardinals marked the longest in the NFL in 2008. Rossum also returned 15 punts for 223 yards (14.9 avg.) and recorded an offensive touchdown on a one-yard rush.

He enters the upcoming season ranked second in NFL history for career total return yards (14,751) and kickoff return yards (11,779). Rossum also ranks first among active players with 2,972 career punt return yards.

Evans (6-4, 275) enters his eighth NFL season after originally being signed as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2001 by the Dallas Cowboys out of Georgia. After spending his first two years with the Cowboys, he went on to play the past five seasons with the Washington Redskins.

Evans played in 16 games with 11 starts for the Redskins last season, finishing the year with 47 tackles and 3.5 sacks. In his career, he has totaled 207 tackles, 13.0 sacks, three forced fumbles and 12 passes defensed in 96 games with 23 starts.
