San Francisco's left tackle has only played for the team that drafted him in 2007, and he's had many great moments over the years.
The San Francisco 49ers announced they have signed left tackle Joe Staley to a two-year contract extension through the 2019 season.
"In today's NFL, it is rare for a player to play his entire career with one team," said 49ers general manager Trent Baalke. "With this extension, Joe will likely be a 49er for life. He is a three-time All-Pro and core member of our football team. His commitment and professionalism have been great assets to our team and our community. This extension reflects our philosophy of investing in our core players."
Staley (6-5, 315) was originally selected in the first round (28th overall) of the 2007 NFL Draft by San Francisco. He earned All-Pro honors in 2011, 2012 and 2013, in addition to being selected to three consecutive Pro Bowls (2012-2014). During his career, he has started all 98 regular season games in which he has played, as well as eight postseason contests.
In 2013, Staley was a major part of the 49ers ground attack that ranked third in rushing yards (2,201) and fourth in touchdowns (18). Staley and his fellow linemen helped the offense amass the second-most total net yards (494) on opening day in the history of the franchise versus the Green Bay Packers.
A 29-year-old native of Rockford, MI, Staley played at Central Michigan University, where he earned consecutive First-Team All-MAC honors in both his junior and senior seasons. He played in 46 games (39 starts) for the Chippewas and helped the team produce a 1,000-yard rusher in three of his four seasons (2003-05).
The 2007 draft produced both left tackle Joe Staley and linebacker Patrick Willis. We start our look back with Staley...
