The San Francisco 49ers announced on Tuesday they have signed linebacker Jermaine Cunningham to a one-year deal. The team also announced they have waived quarterback B.J. Daniels and fullback Owen Marecic.

Cunningham (6-3, 255) was originally selected by the New England Patriots in the second round (53rd overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft. He has played in 36 games (14 starts) recording 67 tackles, 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. In 2012, he saw action in 12 games (three starts), recording 25 tackles, 2.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries. Cunningham was released by the Patriots on August 31, 2013.
A 25-year-old native of the Bronx, NY, Cunningham attended the University of Florida, where he started in 38 of 45 games for the Gators. As a two-time team captain, he finished his career with 152 tackles and 19.5 sacks.
Daniels (5-11, 217) was originally selected by San Francisco in the seventh round (237th overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft. Marecic (6-0, 245) was signed by the 49ers on September 17.
