The San Francisco 49ers have signed K Billy Cundiff to a one-year contract. To make room on the roster for Cundiff, the team waived LB Eric Bakhtiari.
Cundiff (6-1, 212) has played in 106 games, connecting on 139 of 184 (75.5%) field goal attempts and 217 PATs, over the course of his NFL career. He was originally signed by the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2002 and has also played for the New Orleans Saints, Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens and most recently the Washington Redskins. Cundiff appeared in 5 games during the 2012 season with the Redskins, converting 7 of 12 field goal attempts, before being released on October 9.
A 32-year old native of Harlan, IA, Cundiff graduated from Drake University where he set 15 school records and seven Pioneer Football League kicking records. He was the first player in league history to be named First-Team All-Pioneer League four straight seasons.
Bakhtiari appeared in five games with the 49ers in 2012.
